How To Downgrade Your CRM Subscription To A Smaller Plan
First of all, we totally understand, no matter what your reasons are!
We’re actually thrilled you want to keep using Fern CRM and being part of this community. 🥳
At this time, we don’t have an automated way to downgrade your account, but we want to make it super easy and guilt-free. You don’t have to talk to a human or explain your reasons (unless you want to!)
We take security and privacy seriously around here, so an actual human is going to verify with the account owner before approving the downgrade process. As such, we need a minimum of 7 days to complete the downgrade process before your card is charged again. (But usually the process will be done within 2 business days.)
(Can’t afford to wait 7 days? No problem, choose option 3 below.)
Step 1
The first thing we’re going to need is the “Friendly Business Name” that’s on your Fern CRM account.
You can find it at the top of the left sidebar and in your Business Profile inside the Settings:


Once you’ve got that info ready, pick whichever option below that feels best for you:
Option 1: Submit a form
Quick and easy, just fill out this form.
We’ll send an email to the account owner within 1-3 business days to verify the downgrade.
If the link isn’t clicked, we’ll try one more time the next day. After that, we consider it to be a mistake or someone being nasty, so we won’t change your subscription.

Option 2: Email or DM the Fern Team
Same process as above, but for those who actually do want to talk to a human. 😊 Just let us know which plan you’d like to switch to and the name on the account (see above.)

If your account owner doesn’t receive a reply within 3 business days, max, then we didn’t get your message. Please reach out again. (We’ll usually respond with the verification process the same business day or the next, but we might be at an event or something.)
Option 3: Emergency Downgrade Situation
If you’re in a serious pinch and need to make SURE your card isn’t charged, but your billing date is less than a week away, don’t worry, we’ve got your back!
We genuinely hope no one ever needs to use this option, but we wanted to offer it just in case.
First, use option 1 or 2 above to get in touch with us, but don’t stop there.
As soon as you complete option 1 or 2, you need to go into your Company Billing settings and cancel your CRM account. You’ll lose access to it on your next billing date (but you won’t be charged.) Step-by-step instructions here: How To Cancel Your CRM Subscription
Once we get your message, we can restore your account at the smaller subscription plan. Your card will be charged the smaller price and you’ll get access again without losing anything.
Naturally, we’ll try to downgrade your account before you lose access. But if you’re in a situation where losing access for a few days is better than being charged, then at least you have this option.
We really don’t want anyone to struggle financially as a result of using Fern CRM, which is why the Sprout plan exists.
Automating This Process
Yes, we’re hoping HighLevel (the software that Fern CRM is built on) adds a feature to your dashboard that let’s you change your subscription plan as easily as upgrading. It wasn’t our idea to make upgrading so easy and add extra steps to downgrading. (Ick.)
