How To Create Custom Product Pages In Online Stores

If you’ve built an online store in Fern CRM (or are planning to), Custom Product Pages is a huge benefit for both you and your shoppers.

You may have already noticed that a “normal” product page pulls the images and descriptions from the product itself (when you created the Product in the “Payments” section of your CRM account.) But it’s a bit limited to share things like a sample of the first chapter or an unboxing video or UGC or anything like that.

Custom Product Pages give you the flexibility to add all that and more!

You can even build a full, long-form sales page for any of your products and still have it be part of your online store experience.

This feature is great for:

  • authors to share book samples
  • coaches and consultants to show what’s inside your workshops, workbooks, or courses
  • e-comm sellers to provide more details about specific products or product lines (like a blurb about the label on all product pages related to that label)
  • User Generated Content (UGC)
  • unboxing videos
  • and more!

So many ways to use this feature, I literally get giddy!

Of course, you don’t need a custom product page to incorporate product reviews. Stars and reviews show automatically if you enable them in the product details element. But if you want to display screenshots of customer testimonials that you gathered elsewhere (like social media or another review site), then you can use a CPP to add those for specific products.

How-To Video

In this how-to video, I’ll show you exactly how Custom Product Pages are different than a regular product page or normal sales page, 3 examples of different ways to use Custom Product Pages, and then how to create your own.

Step-By-Step How-To (without video)

First, you’ll need an existing online store inside your Fern CRM account. If you haven’t built one yet, it’s super quick and easy!

Once you have a store, open it by logging into your CRM account and going to Sites >> Stores >> and click on the Store you want to modify.

Once you’re inside the Store and can see the grid of pages in that store, click on the button in the top right corner that says [+ Add New Page]

That will open a popup window where you can give the page a name and choose the URL path. In that same popup window, click the toggle switch next to the words “Create Custom Product Details Page” as seen in this screenshot:

Clicking on that switch will open a new dropdown menu in the same window where you will choose the product you want this page to be about from the list that appears:

Only products you’ve previously created in your Payments section AND also included in this particular store will appear on this list. If you don’t see the product you’re looking for, check these things:

  • the product exists in the list of products in your Payments section
  • when you created the product, you toggled the switch at the top of the product to “Include in Online Store” (you’ll see the toggle switch if you edit the product from the Payments section.)
  • the product is included in this Store you’re adding the page to. (Go to the Store’s Settings and look at which products are included/excluded.)

Once you’ve added the Product you want this page to be about, named the page, and given it an URL path, click the button in the bottom right that says [Create New Page].

It will redirect you to the page builder for a page that looks like any other product page. The product details element will have the generic placeholder product info instead of your actual product info. (To see the real product info, click to preview the page.)

Now you’re ready to add whatever design elements you want to enhance the shopping experience!

Add text, images, popups, videos, or anything else. Create a full, long-form sales page if you like and have all the buttons scroll to the product details section where they can add it to their cart. Or keep it simple and add whatever is needed to give them more info about this particular product.
